Rumor mill:
Gradual opening of the border only by means of quarantine (2 weeks) and only for certain countries, from around November.
Quarantine and medical examinations must be paid for by yourself. Flight booking only through the domestic embassy (your embassy in your country). Hotel for quarantine can only be purchased from an official location, as only a select few may be used for this. Please be sure to contact your embassy for this. (Countries: Denmark, Germany, England, Korea, Japan and Hong Kong)

FAQ:
Is it currently possible to enter the Kingdom of Thailand for tourist purposes again?
No, there is currently no easing of the border closings for those arriving for the purpose of a tourist stay. There is also no date from when international tourists will be allowed to enter Thailand again.

There are bookable flights to Thailand, so can I go on vacation in Thailand again?
No. The flights can be booked, but will then be canceled and converted into flight vouchers or refunds. The reason is that international flights do not have a landing permit for Thailand. Only a few exceptions, such as Thai travelers returning, Elite Card holders or entering for diplomatic missions, are allowed. But these too have to contact their embassy first. Even then, entry into Thailand is difficult.

THAI AIRWAYS has prepared to operate chartered flights on six international destinations (Denmark, Germany, England, Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong) to Phuket for twice a month or more on each route based on passengers’ travel demands. THAI expects to launch these flights around late November 2020 with the People’s Republic of China as the planned destination.

Changes may be possible after the meeting on August 27th.
Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, told the Associated Press that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports would hold a major meeting to consider ways to welcome foreign tourists to travel to Thailand expectedly from October 1 to help stimulate the domestic economy.

The meeting is expected to be on August 27 and will involve 4 other departments from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Transport, and Ministry of Interior.

15. August 2020
On August 15, 2020, the proposal was made to allow the Phuket region as the first destination. Long-term tourists should be addressed here, as a quarantine of approx. 14 days is likely and this must be paid for independently. Students were also mentioned in this context. More details are not official.

Previously, travel bubbles were proposed, which the TAT often proposed as a solution. A safe-and-seal program was also under discussion. All of these ideas have only been suggested in conjunction with costly self-quarantine in luxury hotels. Since costs and 14-day quarantine exclude regular vacationers, no solution has been found to date.

For many, the trip ended in March 2020. In Thailand, too, holidaymakers had to move back home. Since the lockdown, there has been little easing of international tourism in Thailand by the Thai government.

The most common question we get:
When is it possible to travel again?

There are now a few positive changes to report. Curfews within Thailand have been relaxed and reduced to hygiene rules. This includes wearing face masks. Major events are still not allowed. Occasions with crowds were allowed, sports events as diverse as a marathon. Discos are also allowed to reopen, albeit with the condition that they close earlier (midnight). Distance rules and temperature measurements were part of everyday life until recently, but they are increasingly being neglected.

This is because there has not been a new case of corona virus infection in Thailand for over 80 days. Only a few quarantined people tested positive for the virus.

government
The Thai government has not yet announced a plan to restart international tourism. So far, all campaigns to promote tourism have always been aimed at domestic tourism.
Only the TAT (Thailand Tourism Authority) publishes proposals at least once a week, which they submit to the government. So far, the government has only granted entry to a few groups. Including Thai citizens abroad, people with elite visas, workers from neighboring countries and similar non-tourist groups. Up to this point there is no date from which the lockdown of Thailand will end.
