In various reports on the Internet one comes across reports that Thailand will not consider opening its borders to tourists until 2021 at the earliest. Is that correct?

The good and bad news alternate almost daily.
In particular, the official tourism authority in Thailand (TAT = Tourism Authority of Thailand) officially announces many reports and proposals for the government. Including proposals from the "Travel Bubbles", the 5 quarantine islands, etc. The news that Thailand will not open its borders until 2021 also comes from TAT. From a gentleman "Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya". He is in a leading position in the department - international marketing Southeast Asia. It is known, however, that many hold the same executive position. Therefore the position within the TAT is just as unimportant as the fact that the government alone makes decisions. The TAT can only make proposals. In fact, only a few people can make decisions. The Minister of Tourism, Mr. "Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn" or, for example, Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn. Therefore, the statement of the TAT remains only a personal opinion of a single person within the TAT and is not an official announcement.

Until then, the "wait and see" strategy will continue to apply. There should be news at the end of August at the earliest. A few groups were admitted in early August, including medical tourists. It can be assumed that further groups will be allowed and a 14-day quarantine will take place. Since this excludes regular tourism, news can only be expected if new infections with the corona virus will clearly decline/ zero new infections.

The earliest development will come with the opening of the borders of other Asian countries. If Bali opens its borders to tourists and no new sources of infection arise, this is a sign of a possible restart of tourism that other countries do not want to postpone forever. So we have to wait until the end of this month and then until the end of September.

Many Thailand fans are already waiting impatiently. Some have already considered other destinations for the high season in December. This also includes Bali, which opens to tourists in mid-September.
